NewZ + ShowZ
Not sure if it’s good news or bad news but a lot of people are getting their news on Facebook. About 30% to be exactish — which is about the same percentage of Americans who say they get their news from television.
Jimmy Kimmel is back as 2024 Oscars host. It’s his fourth time taking on the host duties. Which is kind of a lot for a guy who used to write segments like Girls On Trampolines for The Man Show.
If it ain’t broke, turn it into insufferable sequels, then prequels, then TV series. Seth Macfarlane’s Ted, a prequel to the Ted movies set in the 1990s, premieres on Peacock Thursday, January 11.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 19 years, dozens of kids, one marriage, and one divorce for Brangelina since 2005’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith was released. But it has. Prime Video revives the classic film in a reimagined 8-episode series, starring Donald Glover and premiering February 2.
Keke Palmer hosts Soul Train Awards 2023, airing November 26 at 8p on BET, with performances by BJ The Chicago Kid, Coco Jones, Danté Bowe, Fridayy, Muni Long, SWV, and Palmer in the mix. Janelle Monae will also receive the Spirit of Soul award.
The Billboard Music Awards “happened” this past Sunday and it was a shitshow. Despite being slated as an A-list livestream lineup of performers including David Guetta, Bebe Rexha, Karol G, Mariah Carey, Tate McCrae, Morgan Wallen, and more, the event wasn’t even an event. The digital-only production had no host and no venue and wasn’t livestreamed. When viewers tuned in to watch, it was just links to pre-taped performances and pre-recorded acceptance speeches. Like recorded on iPhones 💀And some of the links didn’t work. And the performances and acceptance speeches were interrupted (literally in the middle of them) by ads for Lexus and Capital One.
Nothing says “The Holidays” like classic television from a bygone era. Catchy Comedy is serving up 21 episodes of The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast starting at 6a on Thanksgiving and running for 24 hours. The hour-long specials were filmed in the former MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, and feature roasts of iconic figures from the 1970s and 1980s.
Fun Fact
There’s a theory that you sweat when you're anxious to alert others’ brains to whatever potential danger you’re anxious about. Brain scans have revealed that sniffing the sweat of a panic-induced person lights up regions of the brain that handle emotional and social signals. Unfortunately for people I meet, the danger I’m anxious about is just small talk and whether I’ll say something dumb.

The best.
ABZs: The Surprising Power of Coupons and Discounts for Affiliate Marketing
Coupons and discounts are often an excellent foot in the door. For a new affiliate program, they can launch you into viral success. It’s a very small strategic investment for what is oftentimes a game-changing windfall.
Of course, it’s important to understand coupons aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Sometimes, brands worry that offering coupons might detract from their image. That a coupon will cheapen their hard-earned brand equity. But, I can personally attest that, when integrated smartly into affiliate marketing campaigns, coupons can actually elevate your brand. It's all about strategic engagement with value.
Side Note: Never shoehorn a strategy. While I typically counsel my clients that coupons are highly recommended, I’ve worked with a handful who, for their own reputational or business-related reasons, refused. And it worked out just fine. (You can read a great case study here!)
But today’s post is going to give you some good reasons why you should consider coupons — and if you’re a publicist or agency, how you can sell your clients on the idea.
