Time for all your favorite thingZ
Vol. 107 It's a cruel summer and bops goin brazy
Hello, friendZ! How is your July? Is your head on a swivel like mine is? Do you keep looking forward to “next week” when “things will slow down” only to get to next week and things are in fact no, not slowing down at all? Great! Now that we’re all here, let’s take a few minutes to stop doing work that will be there in 10 minutes (and also forever, as that’s the point of work), stop worrying about things we can’t fix (like that we have to work), and give ourselves a few minutes of comical bliss and current events. I am obviously talking to myself, but glad you’re here too!
ShowZ, NewZ and FunnieZ are up and I’ve also got an ABZs for your viewing pleasure today! Doing a quick brief on the who’s and what’s of Skimlinks. It’s for paying subscribers, as usual. Get on that if you’re not already — in addition to unlocking today’s post, you’ll get over 100 posts of archives with tons of affiliate how-to nuggets you can use in your business!
OK, that’s enough. Let’s get after it.
Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the New York Jets debuts Tuesday, August 8 at 10p on HBO. The Jets were last featured on the show in 2010.
Goodbye, kids! Hello senior discounts and early bird specials! ABC has unveiled retired restaurateur Gerry Turner, 71, as its first Golden Bachelor, a new spinoff coming this fall.
Streaming services musical chairs. Yellowstone has been added to CBS’ fall lineup as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes disrupt primetime plans. The drama replaces The Equalizer on Sundays at 9p, starting with season one. The network is also welcoming back SEAL Team, which was on CBS for 4 seasons before moving to Paramount+ for season 5 … only to come back to CBS. Womp womp.
It’s a Parent Trap headline. But she’s not, like, a regular mom. Lindsay Lohan has given birth to a baby boy. And I have disappointed myself with these jokes.
Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello are divorcing. Sofía didn’t seem bothered as news broke this weekend, sharing a series of sexy photos on Insta from her Italian vacation with friends.
The Long Island Serial Killer was caught and arrested last week. Many people who knew the killer, architect Rex Huerman, said they were unsurprised because apparently he was not chill and quite creepy. This makes me feel a little better about hating the act of small talk. Like maybe you’re a serial killer, and I’m just smart. Did you ever think THAT?
Country Music Drama. Fans walked out of a Miranda Lambert concert after she scolded a group of concertgoers for “taking a selfie.” First of all, who? Second: They asked someone to take their pic, which is exactly NOT a selfie. Third: Everyone knows you throw out the drunk guy, not the ladies who love you.
Thank U, Next. Ariana Grande has deleted wedding photos and nearly all mentions of soon-to-be ex-husband Dalton Gomez from her Instagram.
Feeling better already.
Affiliate Marketing ABZ: Why Skimlinks is a Not-So-Secret Weapon for Maximizing Affiliate Revenue
I run into 3 basic camps of publicists these days.
Veteran publicists who started in print and traditional media and now re-learning PR for the digital world.
Brand new baby publicists cutting their teeth in PR and looking to build their client rosters.
Successful publicists who either work at the agency level or run their own outfit and want to expand offerings.
The reason I run into them is because affiliate marketing is where they all converge. In the world of online publishing, editors’ jobs are to optimize revenue streams without compromising the user experience. Enter Skimlinks, an affiliate marketing solution for editors, writers and publicists alike. Today, I’m exploring why Skimlinks is a game-changer from an editing perspective and why publicists need to incorporate it into their outreach strategy.
