30-second Emmy recap. Keenan Thompson hosted his first Emmys this week. HBO’s Succession took Best Drama. Ted Lasso won best comedy. The White Lotus won for best limited or anthology series. At 26, Zendaya became the youngest actress with two Emmys for acting. And Pete Davidson graced the stage in a surprise appearance to award fellow SNL-alum Jason Sudekis best comedic actor… In the exact outfit Kanye wore in 2019. 👀

Affiliate ABZs: Capitalizing on the Crossroads
If you’re out here doing your thing in 2022 as a publicist, you already know the importance of folding in affiliate links with your pitching. But I cannot stress enough that it’s only one tiiiiny piece of the puzzle.
From Holiday Gift Guides (read my HGG tutorial here!) to listicles to traditional marketing and PR, there is so much commerce happening in content. Content is commerce. And commerce is content.
And as a publicist, you have an opportunity to be the connection point that makes it all happen. On the PR side, you get to be the hero, securing high-quality coverage with the bonus of opening a whole new sales channel. But your value most certainly does not stop there!
As I said, commerce is what’s churning the content machine. Which means there are pubs and agencies on the flip side too. Their purpose started in affiliate commerce, and their whole thing is making sales. But guess what? They need quality content to prop up their operations too.
So where does that leave us? On one side, we have traditional pubs and brands with a primary goal of content and coverage, and a secondary goal of affiliate revenue. On the other hand, there are affiliate organizations whose primary objectives are to sell products, and they do it with innovative content.
As modern publicists, we can position ourselves at the crossroads of these marketplaces, serving as trusted facilitators on all fronts. When this happens, measurable revenue for your branded clients, your affiliate partners, and your publishers all tracks back to you—making you an invaluable business partner with benefits they can’t get from anyone else. Your potential is endless.
