Affiliate ABZs: The Building Blocks of a Solid Strategy
When you’re building your affiliate business as a branch of PR, there are a few things that you should work out ahead of time. These factors will help you have the best footing and foundation heading into your affiliate biz. And while they seem simple, like footing and foundations, they’re pretty important for what comes after.
When it comes to a well-rounded affiliate strategy, there’s definitely MORE to it than this, but these couple of factors are standouts to me. If you want to build a great affiliate strategy that gets you clout, industry reputation, and explosive revenue, you need to start with perfecting these 3 things:
A solid grasp of editorial calendars. If you’ve worked in PR any length of time (like LITERALLY ANY) you’ll have a good head start on this, but if you’re new here you need to learn the calendar ropes. From holidays and seasons to news cycles and trends, you need to know what people are writing about, when and why if you want to pitch effectively. (AND YOU DO!)
Working knowledge about existing and future marketing campaigns. If you’re running affiliate marketing, you need to stay apprised of what’s going on with your client/the brand in general. Maybe you can speak into upcoming campaigns from an affiliate and PR perspective. Maybe you can add a specific affiliate effort or PR angle to an existing campaign. Affiliate marketing isn’t replacing what else is going on; it’s just supporting it. And, yes, I get it, you know sometimes maybe campaigns have nothing to do with you—but you should still know about them because there might come a time when they do. And you only get to capitalize on that by knowing and being part of the conversation. So be part of it! In as many ways as you can. Make yourself and your services invaluable.
ConnectionZ. From fostering your existing relationships to forging new ones, your network is your lifeblood. Build a great one, and you’ll always have a place to get your clients the best exposure, from product reccos and shopping event placements for things like Prime Day, Black Friday, Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, etc. to high-traffic write-ups and features with links built in. And when you do it RIGHT, the stories come to YOU!
That’s all I got for this week! Thank you, as always, for reading what I have to say. It means so much to me. Please share with a friend or three?
