It’s my first Substack newZletter! I’m Zlata and I am so glad you’re here. I Have Zlata Thoughts is where I’ll share tips and deets on PR and affiliate marketing, request needs for articles I’m writing, and maybe post a feel-good story. (Ina Garten voice: How fabulous is that?)
I’ll also use this space to share recipes, jokes, and my occasional hot take. In addition to my muZings, you may be treated to a few curse words and my impulse to give the letter Z more burn than it gets.

First Up: Affiliate Marketing ABZs
So let’s just sum it up this way: Affiliate marketing is one of the last true “win-win” scenarios in the business world. What can I say, it’s cutthroat sometimes. Affiliate marketing works like this: The affiliate promotes a branded product/service. If her leads convert to a sale, she is paid a commission. The brand makes a sale. The affiliate makes passive income. Bing bang boom win win.
As you may know, affiliate marketing is also essential to modern PR. I repeat: E 👏 SSEN 👏 TIAL! If you’re a publicist trying to get product coverage, you need an affiliate link for media outlets. Duh, you say. Everyone knows this, Zlata.
BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE. Did you know that affiliate marketing can also give a brand a whole new revenue stream? If we’re already recommending they get on an affiliate platform, why stop with Skimlinks? (When you go to Trader Joe’s are you just getting the Triple Cream Brie? No. You’re obviously also going to get the Naan Crackers and contemplate the Vanilla Bean Ice Cream too.) Additional partnerships with lower to upper-funnel publishers are the key to growing the business and help to support PR efforts (and vice versa!).
