The news coming out of Israel over the last week is beyond words, and I have struggled to find any combination that feels appropriate. More Jews have died in despicable acts of evil this week than at any other time since the Holocaust. The inhumane and intentional targeting of innocent lives is gutting. Women, children, elderly. Entire families. Literal babies. The depravity is the point. The cruelty is the point. So, please. Please, check on your Jewish friends. We are hurting and we are scared.
For obvious reasons, there are no lighthearted news takes today. No jokes. No memes. But I do have some links where you can donate to help Israel, and I hope you do. Every penny of support, just like every brokenhearted prayer, serves to uplift the Jewish people in this time of grief and intense suffering.
Where to Donate to Support Israel:
American Friends of Magen David Adom: This is Israel's primary emergency medical service. Funds raised help put more ambulances in action, replenish supplies for EMTs and paramedics, and support MDA’s critical blood services division.
Help the residents of Kibbutz Nir Oz, who were attacked on Oct. 7, hiding in shelters as their houses and vehicles were burned down by Hamas militants and their friends, loved ones, and neighbors were brutally murdered.
Jewish Agency’s Fund for Victims of Terror: This American charity is a first responder to terror attacks, providing both immediate victim assistance and long-term support.
IsraAID. This is Israel’s humanitarian aid organization. The NGO is working with local partners to coordinate shelter, emergency medical services, and mental health support, including coordination of child-friendly spaces where affected children can play, heal, and be kids amid the chaos.
American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee: JDC is the leading global Jewish humanitarian organization. They are currently coordinating a response effort to support regions that are under attack, providing programming and services for all those affected, including the elderly, people with disabilities, and children and families at risk.
United Hatzalah: This community-based volunteer org provides the fastest emergency medical services (EMS) across Israel, free of charge. They are currently raising emergency funding for desperately needed medical supplies and protective equipment.
Donate to the Friends of the IDF. Support the frontlines and make a donation that will go to the brave men and women of the Israel Defense Forces. Their most urgent needs include armored ambulances, field hospitals, plasma, and other life-saving supplies.
