HelloZ
First and foremost: THANK YOU for all of the incredible birthday wishes. I received so many comments, posts, emails, and texts that I became very overwhelmed with sincere gratitude. Life is a crazy thing and awesome people make it that much better!
Today I’ll have the usual newZ and funnieZ, but for my paid friends (hi!!), I’m diving into key holidays that you should be all over as publicists, affiliate marketers and dare I say editors/freelancers to pitch as story ideas?
Nationally recognized holidays present opportunities for newsworthy pitch letters and marketing strategies across a variety of verticals. Pro tip freebie for all: Do not sleep on the fun, kitschy “days” because writers like
are writing about them. Don’t forget that it’s 2024 and the goal for media pubs is to make money while providing palatable, relatable, valuable, and shareable content. And sometimes that content is about Pi Day Sales. Get it?Speaking of, let’s GET into it!
NewZ and ShowZ
Stand-up star and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” regular Richard Lewis died Wednesday. He was 76. Lewis, who announced last April that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and was retiring from comedy, died of a heart attack, said his publicist.
Reality star and Skinnygirl founder Bethenny Frankel will make her debut on the scripted side of entertainment after being cast in Lifetime new original movie “Danger in the Dorm.” The movie, currently in production, will debut in the summer as part of Lifetime’s “Ripped from the Headlines” movie slate.
Helen Hunt, Christina Hendricks, Christopher Lloyd, Dan Bucatinsky, George Wallace, and Tony Goldwyn are onboard as guest stars for season three of Max series “Hacks,” debuting in the spring.
Eugene Levy (“Schitt’s Creek”) has joined the season four cast of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” in a recurring role. He joins new recurring cast members Molly Shannon and Eva Longoria, as well as returning standout Meryl Streep. I’ve never watched this show, but with Eugene Levy, dare I say I may!
CBS has renewed soap opera “The Young and the Restless” for four more years, through the 2027-28 season. The series has been daytime’s number one drama for 36 years. Not sure why this is mind-blowing to me!!
Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Dubai” is back for a sophomore run on Sunday, June 2 at 9pm. Beginning Tuesday, June 11, the series will move to its regular timeslot of Tuesdays at 9pm.
“Vanderpump Rules” alum Rachel Leviss is suing her former reality show castmates Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix for eavesdropping, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Leviss claims the show’s portrayal of her affair with Sandoval behind his long-time girlfriend Madix’s back “caused mayhem in Leviss’s life, culminating in months-long in-patient treatment at a mental health facility and her departure from the show. Fomented by Bravo and Evolution in conjunction with the cast, Leviss was subjected to a public skewering with little precedent and became, without exaggeration, one of the most hated women in America.” Leviss alleges she was misled by Bravo and producer Evolution Media into thinking she was “contractually barred from speaking out about her mistreatment,” and is demanding that an NSFW video of her and Sandoval be destroyed.
