It’s April! And it’s got me thinking about flowers, fools and other lovely f words. This week, I thought I’d dive into some Q&A on the affiliate side. Some of the jargon gets a little tricky. Good news: I’m here to enlighten you! ✨ Lezgo.

Q: Are Affiliate and Ambassador Programs the Same Thing?
A: Short answer: Nope...not really. Longer answer: But they do similar things and can be used together. But separately. And they both live under the affiliate marketing umbrella. Let me explain.
Ambassadors (also often called affiliates so it’s confusing, I know) and affiliates both promote the brand while growing their own businesses. However, ambassadors are more directly tied to your brand culture and products than affiliates are. Often, ambassadors are (die-hard) fans who believe in your brand’s products. They’re eager to promote you in exchange for compensation—this can include commissions, flat fees for posting, and/or free product. With affiliates, on the other hand, we’re talking about business partners who promote your brand and products because it’s mutually beneficial. In some cases, it may be better to focus on one over the other, but for most brands, you can have your ambassador program and eat your affiliate cake too. BUT! In the words of internationally renowned poets, The Offspring: Keep ‘Em Separated.
Keeping your ambassador program in-house and separate from your affiliate does two big things for you:
It gives you more control over your brand image and lets you build a more flexible ambassador program.
It expands your organic marketing efforts.
It creates the potential for a new revenue stream.
✨ TL;DR ✨
Affiliate programs and ambassador programs are different
But you can do them both!
Even though it’s called “affiliate marketing,” (#confusing) keep your ambassador program in-house, separate from other affiliate marketing
